• Good Morning, How was your First Night in Petra, Have your
Breakfast to start our tour.
• We will start our day in Petra with a gentle climb to
The High Place of Sacrifice, that
has been carved flat, and drainage channels have been cut into
the rock to allow the blood of sacrificial animals to drain
away, the site provides an impressive panoramic view of the
whole area.
• Then through a dusty trail leading gently to Moses Valley we
reach some small Nabataean tombs carved into the dry rock
revealing the entrance to the Siq,
the principal route into Petra itself,
with walls lined with channels to carry drinking water to the
city and a dam to the right of the entrance diverting an
adjoining stream through a tunnel to prevent it flooding the Siq.
• Then the first to greet visitor arriving via the Siq is the
remarkably well-preserved Khazneh (The Treasury),
The best-known of the monuments at Petra
believed to have been something between a temple and a tomb,
possibly both at once.
• North from the Khazneh lies the massif of Jebel Khubtha with
Three large structures, known as
the Royal Tombs that have
been carved into the rock face, Known also as the King's Wall
• Another massive structure carved out of the rock face is
the Monastery (El Deir), you
will be impressed by how deep the builders cut into the cliff to
create this unique structure, To the left of the monastery and
after climbing a staircase that leads up the rock face you will
find the rest of Petra lying in the distance
• And to end our day we will visit the Colonnaded Street,
along which you will see the ruins of the
public fountain, or Nymphaeum. At the northwestern end of the
colonnaded street is the triple-arched Temenos Gateway, which
was originally fitted with wooden doors and marked the entrance
into the courtyard, or "temenos", of the Qasr al-Bint.
